Newcastle Switch Sights To Holland For Summer Targets
It is being reported this morning that Newcastle had representatives watching the Dutch under 21s take on the Republic of Ireland this week, as well as league games in the Netherlands last weekend. The teams watched were claimed to be Vitesse Arnham, PSV, Zwolle and AZ Alkmaar.
The Journal, who are close to the NUFC hierarchy and successfully predicted the rash of French signings in January, also claim that Ajax’s attacking midfielder Siem De Jong is a summer target.
Newcastle were linked with both him and Arnhem’s Wilfried Bony in January, though De Jong’s profile after a successful personal Champions League campaign and scoring goals for fun in the Dutch league, would mean he’d have no shortage of offers if he did move.
As always, speculation months ahead of any possible transfers has to be treated with the utmost caution but as well as making sure of self-preservation this season in the Premier league, if Newcastle can put a decent run together to the end of the season and have a real go at the Europa League – it will certainly do them a world of good in being seen as an attractive proposition to any summer targets.
The only question will be how quickly any potential Dutch recruits will be able to speak fluent French…
