Newcastle Linked With Player Who Ticks Number Of Boxes

Newcastle United have been widely linked today with a Premier League player who ticks a number of the right boxes in United’s transfer strategy.

Jason Puncheon will be out of contract at Southampton in the summer, unless he comes to an agreement before then.

Having previously fallen out with the Saints’ erratic Chairman and being placed on the transfer list, there appears every chance he could move on.

Able to play on either wing, at 26 and potentially available with no transfer fee, Puncheon could be a player to interest United, with half a dozen goals and a number of assists making him worthy of interest.

Of course we will be linked with any number of players between now and the summer, though with his contract having only months to run he could be signed on a pre-contract basis now.

It will be interesting to see whether Newcastle exclusively look abroad for players in the coming transfer window(s), or whether they see it as a priority and/or worthwhile exercise to try and keep any kind of significant English element to the squad, Especially when there is every chance that the likes of first team/bench Simpson, Harper and Williamson might not play any part at St.James’ Park after this season.
