Gouffran – ‘I Wanted To Come To Newcastle Last Summer’
Yoan Gouffran has revealed that he wanted to come to Newcastle last summer, confirming that as well as Moussa Sissoko the French striker had an understanding he would be moving to Newcastle long before the move has actually happened this January.
Speaking to RMC Sport,
Gouffran : « Pas de clan français à Newcastle »
Gouffran : “No French cliques at Newcastle”
The former Bordeaux striker, Yoan Gouffran, who signed for four and a half years with the English club Newcastle, assures Luis Attack (RMC journalist) that he had not just joined the Magpies because of the large number of French players who play there:
Gouffran: “The time had come. I already wanted to come last summer. Why Newcastle? I will be able to improve. Also there are many French players who play here, Newcastle is a club that has always attracted me. I have friends here. I had spoken with Obertan and Cabaye, but there will be no French clique.”
It is easy to see things in hindsight but it would have been great if Gouffran had arrived last summer and who knows where we might be now, especially as Alan Pardew had no other (goalscoring) strikers to turn to when the Demba Ba issues arose.
Obviously relieved that Gouffran has arrived now but with Ba’s departure we are still, at least, one striker short and that needs resolving in the summer.
