French TV Breaks Bank To Screen Newcastle United Matches
The ever increasing popularity of English football around the World has meant the TV broadcasting deals being agreed with individual countries around the globe have become like gold dust for the overseas broadcasters.
The latest deal to be signed is in France where the popularity/interest in English football has never been higher. The fact that Newcastle United have signed such high profile French internationals such as Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Debuchy, Mapou and Sissoko has added an extra element.
The French pay to view broadcaster Canal Plus (equivalent of SKY over here) have fought off intense competition to keep the rights and are now signed up to the rights to cover all 380 matches per season for the next 3 years, until the end of the 2015/16 season.
The Director General of Canal Plus Group, Rodolphe Belmer, had this to say after the deal was agreed;
“We are satisfied and extremely proud, in a most competitive environment, to have renewed our partnership with the Premier League.
It’s the world’s most admired football competition and most appreciated by our subscribers”.
