Exclusive – Yohan Cabaye “Weeks Like This We Would Love To Live More Often”

8 years ago

Dreamboat (Yohan Cabye) has started writing a ‘Humeur Du Jour’ – ‘Mood Of The Day’ (not every day though!!) on the French version of his website and our translator Pierre kindly made it readable for the rest of us.

This is what Yo(!) had to say about the last week in his ‘Mood’ from yesterday (Monday 25 Feb);

Hello to all.

There are weeks like the one we have just had that we would love to live more often. If football sometimes has in store some nasty surprises, everything has smiled on us lately at Newcastle. At first glance nothing seemed straightforward, yet…

Starting with this 1/16th return final match to face Metalist Kharkiv, that appeared very much as a  game that could catch you out. Thanks to the commitment of the entire team, we were able to overcome this Ukrainian obstacle and demonstrate that we have the level of ambition in this competition.

This meeting was a true European cup match with intensity, a real quality opposition and narrow victory with the smallest of scores. With this qualification in hand, we were perfectly prepared for our league game against Southampton.

As I’ve told you a few days ago, we had to win to cement our good results in the last matches in the Premier League.

After our match on Thursday we were tired. We fell behind very quickly but I am very proud of the reaction of the team to get back on level terms and then to go ahead twice, even after the equaliser from Lambert. I’m not going to hide it, this victory was even more special for me, as I had the chance to score the third goal for the team. Before the game, the coach asked me to take the penalty kicks if the opportunity presented itself …

Even if we remain close to the relegation zone, this positive result allows us to aim higher in the league. But the season is still long, our next match against Swansea, recent winner of the Capital One Cup, looks to be very difficult.

We must remain focused on our current goal and continue to grind results as we showed we could last week. Hoping that the following weeks are similar to the last one …

Can’t disagree with our charismatic playmaker on his overview of the last couple of matches and like Yohan, let us hope we can live through plenty more weeks like the last seven days.
