Debuchy Ruled Out Of Europa League As Mapou Gets The Nod

The revised squad lists for our Europa League challenge have just been published by UEFA.

As always nothing ever seems to be straightforward with the ‘organisation’.

The players Newcastle have removed from their list/squad are Demba Ba, Xisco, Medhi Abeid, Brad Inman, Dennis Knight and Conor Newton.

In terms of adding players things get a little more complicated.

The maximum number of players you could add at this juncture was three and Newcastle have decided to add Moussa Sissoko, Massadio Haidara and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Yoan Gouffran was cup-tied having played for Bordeaux, including against Newcastle, but players who have played in the Champions League ARE allowed to be added to your Europa League list – though it is a maximum of one.

Both Debuchy and Mapou had played earlier this season in the Champions League but it is Mapou who got the nod, a move which was always on the cards as Alan Pardew will be desperate to give him game time with Coloccini and Taylor currently back on top form in the Premier League.
