Claims Of Price Quoted For Newcastle Defender

Reports in Italy are claiming that AC Milan have pulled out of a potential deal for Davide Santon because of the quoted ‘price tag’.

The Italian club were pretty shoddy with their behaviour in January, trying to unsettle the Italian full-back with very public declarations of interest.

Nothing happened then and nothing is likely to happen now either, especially as it is claimed that the Italians have now pulled out after being ‘quoted’ 10m euros by Newcastle United which equates to around £8.5m.

The story in the Corriere dello Sport can no doubt be taken with a very large pinch of Parmesan. The whole thing looks a classic case of trying to unsettle a player and get him on the cheap.

Santon had lost his way at Inter after picking up a handful of Italian caps at a very young age, Newcastle took a chance on somebody who for me is a very talented footballer and they paid a reported fee of around £5m/£6m.

He is Newcastle’s only ever present in the league this season, is back in the Italian squad and played for them recently. Even better, he has a Geordie girlfriend and gives every indication of loving it both in Newcastle and at the football club.

Talk of £8m or so being enough to land such a quality player is probably as laughable as the story overall.
