Three Quick Signings = Nine January Points

At the start of the season Ashley took a huge gamble.

A gamble that for the first time in footballing history, for any team, that the whole of the squad from the previous season would stay fit and replicate the form of the previous season.

This has never happened before so why should it happen now? In my lifetime we have often gone the other way.

Our relegation seasons in the late 70s and 80s often followed a ‘successful’ season. This year is no different. We have had more games to play and less players to play them. It makes me wonder if Ashley and co have different eyes to the rest of us. We all know we punched above our weight last year.

Reality is now kicking in and a mid-table finish is what we are worth. However, the injuries are becoming more of a concern. The noises coming out of SJP suggest there is less money than Pardew is hoping for. Again we seem to have a totally different set of rules to other clubs. I think Ashley thinks the phrase ‘speculate to accumulate’ only applies to his shopping empire.

Surely he can see the club is struggling. Surely he has looked at the league table.

The QUICK addition of 3 quality players could net us 9 points against Norwich, Reading and Villa. That could make the difference come the end of the season.

What we don’t need is some protracted negotiations lasting weeks that ends up with us being told how ‘lucky’ we are not have paid over the odds for X Y or Z and what a great businessman ‘Mike’ is for standing his ground.’

We also get told constantly about ‘Mike’ not budging from his value of a player. I very much doubt if this valuation is realistic or accurate, moreover the lowest bid we can offer without offending both the club and the player.

Anyway, let’s see what happens. I’m aiming low so I don’t get too disappointed.

Come to think of it that could be our club motto!
