Reported £12m Newcastle Bid For Wilfried Bony
In the murky world of football transfers we have come to learn not to believe anything until the player is pictured in black & white but Newcastle have been linked with both Sporting’s Ricky Van Wolfswinkel and St.Etienne’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in recent days. Sporting’s coach admitted yesterday he may lose the player this month, while the French club made a public statement due to reports of Newcastle’s interest, to say that all offers had been rejected…so far.
This morning the Telegraph is claiming Newcastle are now in talks to sign Vitesse Arnhem’s Wilfried Bony, who is currently at the African Cup on Nations with Cheick Tiote and the rest of the Ivory Coast squad.
The speculated fee is £12m and the possibility of a move, somewhere, was given extra credence recently after Bony’s agent publicly spoke of interest from the Premier League and a possible move, though the two clubs he mentioned then were Chelsea and Liverpool.
With 36 goals in 57 appearances for unfashionable Vitesse, including 16 in 18 this season, Bony would look to potentially have what it takes to bring the goals we desperately need to add to our team. As always though you have to factor in that moving to a stronger league will make it that bit harder for any striker.
This mad belated flurry of transfer deals has given everybody a lift but a proven goalscorer would see Mike Ashley and Newcastle United really setting a marker down as to their ambitions.
The fact the player is at the African Nations is less of a factor now as with Norwich and Reading already past and Villa too soon for any striker we bring in, it would mean Bony only missing two matches against Chelsea and Spurs, as compared to any other potential buy.
