President Says Bastia Will Decide Quickly On Newcastle’s Offer
We brought you news on Monday that Newcastle United had made an offer for the Corsican club’s 19 year old attacking midfielder – [intlink id=”23140″ type=”post”]Offer Made For French Midfielder[/intlink] and now the Corsican club’s president has confirmed that they have indeed had an offer of 3m Euros including sell on clause and a loan back until the end of the season. President Geronimi also confirms that a decision is imminent.
This is how the news was revealed on Bastia’s website;
What about the case of Florian Thauvin who is the great hope of the club and is courted by clubs such as Arsenal, Newcastle and Lille?
I want to be very clear about this and tell the whole truth to our supporters; the club has received an offer for Florian and it is from Newcastle who have made an offer of 3m Euros – with the player then loaned back to Bastia until June and 15% of any profit on a future transfer. We are currently considering this proposal and we will decide quickly.
What about contact from Arsenal as stated in the press last week?
We have not received any concrete offer from Arsenal and therefore there is absolutely no question of there having been a 5m Euros offer as reported. I have had Arsene Wenger on the phone twice this week, he expressed an interest in the player but it didn’t go beyond that.
The player is seen as a real emerging talent and if the deal does come off then it is very encouraging that Newcastle are aiming longer-term with a decent investment in a player who wouldn’t be immediately available.
As an aside, would be good to see Newcastle United going down the route of Bastia and having such an extensive interview with Mike Ashley, Geronimi covered just about every topic including supporter issues.
