Pardew Challenges His Captain
This season his standards, along with most of his teammates have dropped, plus Alan Pardew revealed recently how the two of them had had a falling out over something silly but it was now sorted. The manager making a big show of embracing his captain on the pitch after the QPR victory.
Coloccini was absolutely superb against the mackems as he led his ten man team after Tiote’s dismissal but that is a bit of a stand out match as I think to say he has been average for the rest of the campaign.
Now Alan Pardew has challenged Colo to raise his game, starting tonight;
“I thought he did well against Manchester United. He was unfortunate for one of the goals as he got smashed in the face just before they scored.
I don’t think he’s been particularly lucky in some situations but I do think he can play better.
If we can get another 10% out of him and have Anita and Williamson back in the team, I really don’t think we’re far away”.
If Newcastle are to improve this season then Coloccini is a key figure and maybe it’s a bit strange that the manager is very publicly asking for more from his captain.
I’ve heard a few fans suggest that Colo’s powers are waning but I think like everybody else he has suffered because of the lack of signings in the summer and the fact United have struggled to put out a settled back four.
Everton may have scored in each of their last seventeen league matches but they have also conceded in each of their last fifteen.
Statistics that suggest a clean sheet might be a big ask but if Coloccini and his defence can deliver it then Newcastle should come away with three points.
Newcastle to keep a clean sheet is 31/10 with BetVictor.
