Pardew Calls For Signings But Is it Too Late?
The manager had this to say post-match;
“We need some impetus in terms of signings. It needs a little boost for everybody to get their heads up”.
We need signings now, we needed them in the summer and we needed them in pretty much every transfer window since Mike Ashley took over at St.James’ Park.
We are unlikely to ever find out the real reasons but Alan Pardew will surely never be in a stronger position than he was after finishing fifth last season and picking up a number of manager of the year awards. He then made clear he was desperate for new signings including a right-back and centre-half but his wish list was ripped up by Mike Ashley.
At that point the manager could, and should, have made his stand as he certainly knew his squad wasn’t strong enough.
Pardew failed to push the issue then and now we are all paying, including the manager.
We needed new signings in place for this run of three crucial/winnable matches against Norwich/Reading/Villa and so far we’ve only brought the Debuchy saga to an end while our top scorer has left.
Newcastle United don’t have a transfer strategy, they make it up as they go along.
