Newcastle United have confirmed their sixth signing of the January transfer window.

Seventeen year old Swiss (French speaking….?) player Kevin Mbabu has joined United from Servette.

The seventeen year old who is predominantly a centre-half has signed a three and a half year contract after completing a successful trial.

Mbabu is a current Swiss Under 19 international and has made one senior appearance for his club.

The youngster told the official club website;

“I’m delighted to join Newcastle United and today is a big day for me. I have always wanted to sign for a club in the Premier League and Newcastle are one of the biggest there is.

I want to finish my development here in the reserves before one day training the first team and hopefully breaking into the first team”.

The NUFC Reserve team manager, Willie Donachie, said;

Kevin is strong, confident, skilful and a very good prospect.

‘He still has a lot to do as he is only seventeen but I watched him play for Switzerland Under 19s against Scotland and he did really well.

He can play centre of defence or right-back and if keeps working hard then he will have a great future in the game”.

It had been reported that both Manchester United and Arsenal were also interested in the player but United have signed him for an undisclosed fee.
