Odds Tumble On Pardew Leaving
Hard to believe it but less than two months ago, Alan Pardew’s job was seen as one of the safest in the Premier League.
Despite losing at home to West Ham, Pardew was still a 100/1 shot to be the next Premier league manager to leave his post, the same odds as Sir Alex Ferguson.
Including that West Ham, Newcastle are on a run of fourteen matches where they have won only two of them.
The current odds on the next manager to go are Lambert 2/1, McDermott 3/1, Pardew 5/1 (see full list here). Hard to believe but O’Neill has gone from hot odds on favourite to 25/1 outsider in a matter of weeks.
In a strange twist of fixtures, Newcastle have come off a run of matches against those near the top, to now face Norwich a few places above us and then the two clubs whose managers are above Pardew in the betting.
In yet another twist, Villa (2 points behind NUFC) play Southampton (1 behind) and if either win and Newcastle lose at Carrow Road, NUFC would drop below them.
I’m not tempting fate but the only outcome if results went pear shaped in those games against Reading and Villa, it would appear inevitable the bookies would then be making our manager favourite for the sack/resignation. It wouldn’t matter how much of his eight year contract he had left or what the perception is with regard to Ashley not replacing Pardew under any circumstances, the bookies would simply look at the form in the cold light of day.
Then if you factor in the following two matches are against Chelsea at home and Spurs away…
I really hope that a combination of our better players returning from injury, new signings and certain players finding their form/motivation, will get us going again and banish any relegation talk. The writing is on the wall though otherwise.
