Newcastle United v Reading – Match Preview
There are must win matches and then there are must win matches, this is a MUST WIN!
The only crumb of comfort from an awful record of two wins in the last seventeen competitive games, is that Newcastle managed to beat two of our relegation rivals. Those wins have kept United’s head above water, at least for now.
Like Newcastle, the visitors haven’t won away all season and quite what the repercussions if that changed – I hope we don’t have to find out. Looking ahead, a point would be almost as disastrous with tough matches coming up and no guarantee of who we’d have available to play in them.
On their travels Reading have lost nine of the eleven matches though they did pick up a decent point at Swansea recently. In addition they have beaten West Ham and came back from two down to beat West Brom, the kind of results you often get when teams have their backs to the wall and have nothing left to lose.
They have a couple of goalscorers on respectable totals in Le Fondre and Pogrebnyak who have each scored eight goals but no other Premier League club have conceded more than Reading’s total of forty two.
Danny Guthrie has returned to the team in recent times having initially fallen out with the manager, needless to say we can’t let him leave on Saturday having got one over on his old club.
On a happier note, our playmaker Yohan Cabaye should be able to dictate play on his return, while fingers crossed Steven Taylor also is able to give the manager a nicer kind of headache than he has had in recent times.
Newcastle need to win, there isn’t much more else to say.
If the players are available then hopefully we’ll line up along these lines and deliver the three points;
Krul, Debuchy, Coloccini, Taylor, Santon, Anita, Perch, Cabaye, Marveaux, Gutierrez, Cisse
