Newcastle United Dodge Bullet With Remy

We all got excited at the seemingly imminent transfer of Loic Remy after agreeing a fee of 10 million Euros with his club Marseille. Now that QPR have stepped in and highjacked this deal by simply offering the lad more money, this blatantly shows what type of footballer he is. A mercenary.

The last thing we need is a mercenary to join our cause in our current predicament, we’re not interested in mercenaries, we want players.

Proper players. A player who knows that playing for Newcastle United is an honour and isn’t to be sniffed at lightly, that knows how big our club is – especially compared to the tiny shambles that is Queens Park Strangers and a player who recognises the possibilities our football is capable of, despite our current league position. Loic Remy is none of these things it seems.

Let’s be honest we’ve only just got rid of one blatant mercenary in Demba Ba, to replace him with another one would be damaging long-term. We went through transfer speculation hell with our No.19 and I don’t want to go through that again with another ‘big time charlie’.

It’s not fun for anyone associated with our football club. Give me a Papiss Cisse type of character every day of the week over a Demba Ba. I am sure we will find a worthy ‘replacement’ by the end of January. Hopefully someone with character.

Seriously what kind of a footballer would even consider playing for the worst team in the Premier League and absolute shambles of a football club in QPR when he has the opportunity to play regularly for Newcastle Utd? What does this say about his character?

So he will be earning twice as much money at QPR and will have a release clause in his contract for if they go down. Congratulations Loic, your agent will be happy with you.

Plus there is his record this season with 1 goals in 14 appearances, albeit just the 2 starts, doesn’t exactly scream 10 million Euro signing. He got 12 goals in 29 games last year, which again, isn’t a must buy. Then there is his heart condition which isn’t exactly a good thing. The man does not suggest he is guaranteed to inspire a change around in the seasons of either of the clubs who are involved. £8.3 million and £80,000 a week. Really? Remy has even been suggested as the number one transfer target to be avoided in some sectors here

In my eyes we have definitely dodged a bullet on this one and should be thanking old flappy face on this occasion rather than slate him. He can have him.

If Remy is motivated by money and being able to jump ship for free if his club goes down, feel free to break the bank in signing him. We don’t want him.

We want a player who would laugh at the choice of joining that circus and be more than content at earning £40-£50k per week whilst playing in front of 50,000 passionate fans.

Instead of 18,000 cockneys having a nice day out slating their failing team, then banking his completely over the top wages whether his team wins or loses without any care whatsoever.

Good luck QPR with your latest signing. Harry Redknapp was spot on when he said, “I’m not interested in breaking the club’s bank to bring in players”, and, “There are players here who are completely overpaid and don’t care about the club. They are taking this club for a ride”.

He says what he means and means what he says does honest Harry…always a man of his word. Triffic!
