Newcastle Target On Road To Marrakesh
Before the January transfer window there was much speculation that a new striker could be in place as early as the first day of the month but once again it was another false dawn.
The player Newcastle were linked with most strongly was Loic Remy, the Marseille striker who as well as injury problems has not been a regular first choice this season for the French club.
Alan Pardew has even admitted Newcastle are interested and an extra strand of the story was the belief that Mike Ashley saw the chance of getting a quick deal on the relative cheap, with the perception that other clubs may be put off by Remy’s heart condition that initially had stopped his move to Marseille. Newcastle’s owner having already taken calculated gambles on the likes of Ben Arfa, Ba, Gosling and Marveaux – all of whom had ongoing injury fears surrounding them when signed.
After claims in the French media that Remy was on Tyneside yesterday in advance of signing for Newcastle, it then emerged that the player is actually in Marrakesh on a three day training camp with Marseille.
Of course this doesn’t mean a deal can’t be done, what with all this new technology such as flying machines and telephones, but it doesn’t suggest he’ll be on the bus to Carrow Road either.
If anything happens to Papiss Cisse and indeed Alan Pardew claimed he didn’t play because of a ‘knock’ at Brighton, then the options currently to play Norwich would be Nile Ranger and/or teenager Adam Campbell, with the nearest he has got to the Premier League is sitting on the bench.
