Newcastle Make Offer For French Striker
Amongst others, Sky Sports and the Chronicle report that an offer has been made.
The versatile player can play both up front and on the wing, while at the age of 26 he just scrapes under Mike Ashley’s stated age policy.
With only a few months left on his contract he ticks another box and the chance of getting a bargain is an even bigger tick.
It is claimed that Newcastle have offered around £600,000 but Bordeaux are after more.
Gouffran played the first 68 minutes in the Europa League match at St.James’ Park earlier this season but like the rest of his teammates he didn’t stand out, while in the return match Gouffran was missing along with just about all of the rest of Bordeaux’s first teamers.
With 22 goals in his last 54 starts for Bordeaux, there seems little doubt that the player could be an asset with our current lack of goalscorers, Alan Pardew even admitting on Saturday that he would have preferred to bring on a striker but he didn’t have that option, this despite Ranger and Sammy Ameobi sitting there.
He is reported to be quick and can shoot with either foot, while one drawback is that he is allergic to grass!
Getting a goalscorer for the kind of fee quoted would look good business all round.
