This season’s FA Cup ‘glory’ trail ended before it had really even started for Newcastle United but after the weekend’s results, Newcastle’s modern FA Cup ‘achievements’ are struggling to even make the upper reaches of the failure league.

If I asked you who had suffered the most FA Cup embarrassments in the last 20 years (time frame of the Premier League) I bet you would assume that Newcastle must be top?
Well after the results in recent days, there have now been 119 occasions when Premier League teams have been beaten by those from a lower division and here we have the league of honour(shame);

I know we all tend to have eyes only for our own club but never in a million years did I realise that we’d also fallen behind both lots of Scousers in the FA Cup failure race.
Liverpool’s dismal/amusing defeat at Oldham has put them clear in front now but getting back to our own particular record, six times in twenty years is still absolutely abysmal.
