Fan Vote Goes Against Alan Pardew

For the first time there was clear dissent shown by a number of fans towards Alan Pardew, both when the substitutions were made and at the final whistle on Saturday.

Against a backdrop of only two wins now in our last eighteen competitive matches, to say Newcastle are displaying relegation form is a severe understatement.

Newcastle United have many more problems than just who is manager but after seeing how fans around me reacted yesterday, the question had to be asked –

Instead of our usual man of the match poll, which I don’t think would have proved too popular, we put the question to the fans –

‘Should Alan Pardew Remain As Newcastle United’s Manager?’

Firstly, thanks to the thousands of you who took the time to vote and secondly, I had to admit I had no idea how the vote would turn out.

Now 24 hours after the match we can reveal that the voting has continued in the same vein all along and the voting stands almost exactly at 70% saying no and only 30% saying Alan Pardew should remain in the job.

I must admit to being quite shocked as I understood people would be upset in the aftermath of the result but that the poll would still show a majority wanting to keep the manager.

Of course we aren’t claiming that our result would be the same if every Newcastle fan was counted but with over 5,000 fans voting it is a snapshot that shows the support for the manager is split at this moment in time.

If people knew who any potential replacement might be then it may well be a case of ‘Careful what you wish for’ but at this moment in time both Newcastle United and Alan Pardew need results to change and of course Premier League quality players brought in before our next match, at Villa in nine days time.

Whatever position Alan Pardew finds himself in now, I don’t think there’d be any doubt that any poll looking at the biggest failing would identify the disastrous lack of transfer activity last summer.
