From ‘Arry Redknapp first blabbing about the infamous £7.5m release clause it hasn’t stopped and what should have been confidential details continue to be made public, no doubt by those with an agenda and access to the information.

This morning The Express have revealed that what led to the talks collapsing initially with Chelsea is that while initially it was understood that £2.5m of the £7.5m would be going to Ba and his agents, it now turns out that it seems that was just the player’s cut and there was a separate £2.5m that had to be paid to Demba’s representatives.
So the deal was actually £10m before you got to his actual wage demands. This latest revelation makes it easier to understand why other potential interest may have not gone any further.
When the Chelsea transfer went through, Demba Ba said how pleased he was that the deal had also help set up his friends and family and now we know exactly to what extent.
For Newcastle to renegotiate Ba’s contract, as well as an improved wage deal due to his success on the pitch, NUFC would have also had to somehow compensate Ba for the £2.5m he was due if he was transferred AND the £2.5m his agents/friends/family were due.
Whether Mike Ashley should have gone further down that road to try and keep one of our best players is open to question but what is not in doubt is that Ashley was never going to get out of first gear on that journey.
As soon as Demba Ba was a success for Newcastle United it was a transfer waiting to happen.
