Answer Staring Pardew In The Face

8 years ago

A terrible performance and many of us were left wondering what on earth Alan Pardew would be able to say about today’s dismal display.

Post-match, this is what the manager had to say;

“We didn’t have enough quality players on the pitch for a Newcastle team, we are missing so many players. Our younger players gave everything they could but it wasn’t enough.

We need to get some bigger players back who can handle the situation of carrying the Newcastle jersey.

Whether that is a signing or a case of getting some of them back fit, I don’t know”.

I feel really sorry for Pardew but what I would blame him for is that at least in public he let Mike Ashley off far too lightly when he wasn’t given the backing in the summer, for the extra players he’d openly talked about needing as essentials this season.

Even if everybody was fit and not at the African Nations, Newcastle would only be able to just about get a first eleven but even then you would have maybe half a bench of any kind of quality.

The reality though is that for starters you are hardly ever going to have all of your best players fit together and while clearly Alan Pardew would be much better off if we had Cabaye, Jonas, Tiote, Ben Arfa and Steven Taylor fit, we would still need extra players to be bought in.

If Mike Ashley isn’t prepared to accept that now then Alan Pardew has no chance.
