Alan Pardew Comes To Defence Of Coloccini

8 years ago

Alan Pardew was forced today to come to the defence of his captain, Fabricio Coloccini.

Over the weekend there was much made of a letter that appeared on the San Lorenzo website, the same San Lorenzo who were earlier given as a possible destination to allow Coloccini to return home in the transfer window.

When I saw the stuff in the media at the weekend it did smack to me of people using a bit of a feeble weapon to try and create hassle for the player and Newcastle United.

Alan Pardew has stated today that the letter that appeared was indeed form his Captain but that it may have been lost in translation…what I think he really meant, despite his diplomacy, was that unscrupulous people were quite happy to take a distorted meaning of what was actually the intention.

Alan Pardew;

“When you interpret from one language to another, while the words can look the same, the interpretation can be slightly different and I think the interpretation of that was slightly lost, if I’m honest. It is his hometown club of course and he has friends and family there. I think he just wanted to say to them – ‘Thank you for your offer of help if I’d needed it’.

Unfortunately for them it hasn’t happened, fortunately for us he remains Newcastle’s captain and is committed to the cause – make no mistake about that”.
