4492 Miles In 37 Days For Newcastle Fans

This season is proving an endurance test for all of us who follow Newcastle United.

Spare a thought thought for the hardcore who never miss a match, just look at this schedule.

In 37 days, Newcastle United will have played six away matches and got beaten in every one (sorry, I was pre-empting Carrow Road!), fans who have travelled to all six will have clocked up around 4492 miles based on travelling from the toon.

(number of miles in brackets for the round trip from Newcastle and back)

Dec 6  Bordeaux (1826 miles)
Dec 10 Fulham (566)
Dec 26 Man.U. (290)
Dec 29 Arsenal (566)
Jan 5  Brighton (692)
Jan 12 Norwich (552)

The money and time off work plus earache for being away so much and all for nothing, well apart from the gallows humour and a drink or three.

For fans who actually go to matches it is just a joke the lack of consideration in terms of TV, when you consider this punishing schedule was added to by the fact that Fulham was a Monday night, Arsenal a Saturday teatime and Brighton a lunchtime kick-off!

Then the final insult is that invariably you see some players having to be cajoled at the final whistle to acknowledge the supporters.

Some players might be feeling hard done to at the moment but they should always bear in mind the sacrifices made by those who pay their wages.
