Will Ashley Pay For Herbie’s Overhaul?

Herbie rides again Part 11

We’re now at that stage in the movie where the audience is hoping for a significant change of fortunes for our beloved Herbie.

Picture the scene…the mood is sombre, the violins are playing in the background and Herbie is a very sorry sight indeed. One door is missing, the wing mirrors are hanging off, the headlights are broken, one wheel is lying on the floor , the other three have negative cambers and the mechanic has just opened the bonnet and is scratching his head wondering where the engine is.

Do the audience give up now or does something in the mechanic’s mind trigger off a chain of events that reverses the fortunes of our beloved Herbie and pushes us back up the table.

We’re now 4/5 of the way through a run of five matches that everyone said in October was our ‘easy’ run of matches that would see us ‘kick on’ and make our move on the leading pack. just like last year.

Four matches later we’ve suffered four defeats on the bounce, we’ve got an injury list as long as your arm, and face a Wigan team that in my opinion will easily outmanoeuvre us on Monday using a 4-5-1 formation that will over-run us in midfield and get in behind our defence with consummate ease, to deliver crosses that Williamson in particular will not be able to cope with.

Going back to Herbie, we’ve got a situation whereby a little bit of investment is needed to get her back on the road again and performing like she should…that investment should have happened in the close season but as we all know never materialised. There’s no doubt Herbie is due a major service and needs some major component parts to steer us away from trouble but the big question as always is…”Will the erstwhile Mr Ashley come up with money?”.

There’s no doubt we would not be where we are now had Ashley invested in Debuchy, another midfielder in the mould of Tiote and a decent centre half because as forecasted three weeks ago, we can’t defend to save our lives without Captain Colo and we weren’t that good with him against Stoke either.

Watching Herbie last year was a great adventure and we all very much enjoyed the ride but this year has been very different, the scriptwriters are still scribbling away and who knows where we’ll end up. However, he definitely needs an overhaul and unfortunately only one man is in control of that.

Will Ashley pay for the overhaul, or are we heading for the scrapheap?

With Fulham, Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal due in December we could very easily be in the bottom three so something needs to be done.

Over to you Ashley…show us you’re ready to undo the damage of not buying in the summer
