Who’s It Again Who Agreed To Demba Ba’s Contract Clause…

8 years ago

Even after a rare convincing home win, Alan Pardew wasn’t allowed to enjoy the aftermath for long.

In his post-match interview the manager was asked about the latest contract/transfer speculation regarding Demba Ba;

“Demba is a player who loves it here and he understands it is a football city.

We’ve tried to do a deal with him and take the clause out and that’s probably where the speculation is.

The clause is always hanging over us and it makes it difficult for us, the club and him. We accept that and that’s the way football is”.

I am always surprised at how quickly some fans are to take up extreme positions and when the latest press headlines about claimed wage demands were made, there were a number of supporters who were instantly saying good riddance.

A team that is desperately short of goals can hardly afford to chuck the Premier League’s current top scorer away without serious thought.

One point that many people seem to conveniently forget (especially those within the club) is exactly who agreed this contract clause with Demba Ba and his representatives.

They can hardly claim it is nowt to do with them as it was under the reign of Ashley, Llambas and Pardew that the contract and clause was agreed to.

Just like life, football is based on deals in every area, now it is up to the people who agreed to the clause to now sort it out and make sure we don’t lose the Premier League’s top goalscorer.
