Wenger’s Double Speak On Ba Signing

When asked at his pre-match press conference if he was going to sign Demba Ba, Arsene Wenger made seemingly one of the weakest denials possible, unless it got lost in translation..

“I like Demba Ba. I don’t think this is the right place to speak about that because he plays against us on Saturday.

I wouldn’t like to put Newcastle or us, or him, in an uncomfortable position. If you ask me ‘Do we sign Demba Ba?’ I say no”.

If the answer was simply no, then why not just say that?

When Wenger says ‘I wouldn’t like to put Newcastle/us/Ba in an uncomfortable position’ then surely any rational person would be made to think that there must have been something the Arsenal manager could have said that would have done exactly that.

If Wenger was honestly trying to put an end to any transfer rumour then he has failed miserably.

If he wanted to hint that he’s keeping his gob shut for the minute and it is very likely he’s going after Ba in January…then it was a resounding success.
