Tiote Confirmed For Ivory Coast

As expected, Cheick Tiote has been named in the Ivory Coast’s preliminary squad of 23 for the African Cup Of Nations.

Tiote is one of six Premier League players in their squad, the others being, Abdul Razak and Kolo & Yaya Toure (all Man. City), Kone of Wigan and Arsenal’s Gervinho.

The 23 will meet up in Abu Dhabi pre-tournament and play a friendly with Egypt on January 14th, their first match of the tournament against Togo on January 22nd before facing Tunisia and Algeria.

The competition running up to the final on February 10th in Johannesburg.

No date has been announced as a cut-off for the players meeting up but the best we would appear to be able to hope is for Cheick to be available for Everton on January 2nd in terms of league matches.

The following Premier League is away at Norwich on January 12th which would appear a no-hoper. Last season neither Ba or Tiote were involved in our third round FA Cup match against Blackburn and guessing that could well be also the case this time around when Newcastle take on Brighton January 5th.
