Shocking Statistics Show United Failure

8 years ago

I don’t know what is more depressing, the fact the scoreline ended up 7-3 or what you find out when you drill down into the statistics from Newcastle’s match with Arsenal.

What came out of of the match at the Emirates according to BBC Statistics are the following;

Possession                    NUFC 55%     Arsenal 45%

Total Shots                   NUFC 10         Arsenal 16

Shots On Target           NUFC  8       Arsenal 12

Corners                          NUFC 6         Arsenal 5

Goals                              NUFC 3          Arsenal 7

If you took away the stats from the last ten minutes when it was ‘three shots and in’ from the home side, I’m guessing total shots and shots on target would be more or less the same, a bit like the goals!

The stand out statistic must surely be the possession which again if you leave out that last ten minutes would see Newcastle’s share rise closer to 60%!

To go away from home to somewhere like Arsenal, dominate possession for large parts of the game, then come away with nothing is surely criminal.

I think it has to be credit to Alan Pardew for the way he set his team out but the individual mistakes let him down and surely point to a lack of quality in his players and not his system.
