More and more I find myself saying, “I really like Alan Pardew BUT….”, and I have yet another of those moments now.

Ahead of the Manchester City match the manager is quite rightly trying to gee the troops up and give them some positive thinking BUT there is a fine divide between positive thinking and talking rubbish.

Alan Pardew;

“We’re having a rough run but I think the work ethic is there and one big result, which could happen this weekend, could change a lot of the picture and we might find ourselves in a good position in the league”.

I think the work ethic is definitely there, especially in the recent matches with Stoke, Wigan and Fulham, can’t disagree there.

A win against Manchester City would undoubtedly be a big result, especially with QPR at home to follow.

However, I have to take issue with, “…find ourselves in a good position in the league”!!!

Newcastle would probably have to win by three or four to even stand a chance of going up one place in the Premier League as Fulham are three points clear. Even that would still leave us in no-man’s land and a maximum of five points above the relegation zone.

I’m all for talking about a big win to use as a springboard but don’t take us for fools.
