NUFC’s Community Champion Revealed
Every season, the PFA (Professional Footballers Association) ask every club in the four divisions to pick their ‘Community Champion’, the player who has devoted the most time to charity work and gone way beyond the call of duty.
For 2011/12 who do you think it is at Newcastle United? Or what about other clubs?
The PFA Head of Community John Hudson, explains the thinking behind it;
“Players at all clubs are instrumental to enhancing the work of their community departments to effect positive change in our society.
Although much of this goes unnoticed and more sensationalist incidents provide media attention, their social responsibilities are key to inspiring many individuals in key areas such as health, education, social inclusion and equalities”.
West Ham’s Champion is Kevin Nolan, while no surprise to see somebody like Phil Neville being Everton’s, but maybe interesting to see players such as Rio Ferdinand, Jermain Defoe and Frank Lampard taking the honours at their respective clubs – fair play to them.
You can see the full list here.
As for Newcastle United (drum roll), step forward the St.James’ Park Community Champion, Shola Ameobi.
