Nigeria’s Coach Reveals Pardew Expects Ba To Go

Alan Pardew when commenting on Shola Ameobi not going to the African Nations had this to say a few days ago;

“Shola won’t be going. The national team manager knows the reasons, which I am keeping to myself”.

While Alan Pardew might have been keeping the reasons to himself, by telling Nigeria’s coach, Stephen Keshi, surely even Pardew must have known that the reasons would be made very public, very soon.

Sure enough, Keshi has now released the following, confirming that Shola is almost certain not to take part due to a contract clause AND also revealing Alan Pardew’s now not so private reasons;

“ I spoke to the gangling (lovely description!) striker, Ameobi, on Christmas Day and he told me he signed a clause in his contract that says he cannot go to the Nations Cup without the Manager’s permission about two years ago.

To make matters worse, Newcastle fear that Demba Ba will be leaving the club in the January transfer window and they need a strong strike force. With Ameobi being their most experienced player in that area, we may not have him for Nigeria’s Nations Cup campaign.

All hope may not be lost, he (Shola) has promised to thrash out the issue with his manager, Alan Pardew, and will tell me the outcome on Wednesday night (Boxing Day)”.
