Newcastle United – The Definition Of Insanity
Speaking after the Fulham match this is what the full-back had to say;
“It’s tough again, we’re doing all of the right things. We were sat in the dressing room afterwards and everybody felt like we had nothing left to give.
They (the fans) can see that we are all working 100%, that’s what they want to see from players in a Newcastle shirt and they can tell we aren’t getting the luck.
In the second half I don’t think we’ve put in as many shots and crosses.
They’re just as frustrated as us, we just have to keep doing what we’re doing”.
The commitment is definitely there and wouldn’t disagree at all with Simpson on that point and yes the fans do expect the players to give 100% which they are giving, plus maybe we have missed out on a bit of luck. Though there again the Wigan sending off and the deflection off Cisse’s back to give us three points against West Brom would suggest it hasn’t all been bad luck.
However, talk of ‘…we’re doing all the right things’ and ‘…we just have to keep doing what we’re doing’ don’t tick any boxes for me.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same things time after time and expecting a different result.
Now I’m not saying Danny is heading for a strait-jacket but while we did play decent against Fulham, it wasn’t as though we dominated the match and they scored with two lucky breakaways. I thought overall a draw was definitely a fair result on both chances and play.
Yes we might have got a few shots in but the crossing was abysmal and chief culprit was Simpson himself. We might have got a lot of crosses in but I can hardly remember a one that landed on a black & white head. We are desperate for extra quality as effort will only get you so far. we have got excellent strikers but we need better quality players of the standard of Santon to retain and run with the ball.
Doing what we are doing is getting us a point a game on average, if we keep on doing that then you know where we could be heading.
