Newcastle Transfer Target In Two Minds

8 years ago

Newcastle United transfer target, Mathieu Debuchy, has already stated how he fought for weeks to try and force his move to Tyneside, now he has been talking again about a potential move.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Lille right-back had this to say;

“I can’t see me leaving a team in the middle of the season,

I don’t like that winter transfer market….however, you never know what can happen in football.

I prefer not to think about it. I met my officials last summer and there were things I appreciated, others I did not”.

With Lille stuck in mid-table (currently tenth) and out of the Champions League, if Newcastle put the money on the table then it would seem very likely (“…you never know what can happen in football”) that the player would move to St.James’ Park at last. That is, just so long as the appeal of linking up with Yohan Cabaye again, helps him to ignore our current form.

It later emerged that Debuchy had kissed and made up with the Lille hierarchy and that as a reward for the player’s commitment despite not getting the move, they wouldn’t stand in his way if he found himself in a similar position.

With Lille’s league position and being out of Europe, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the French club also happy to deal on the player now, with maybe even some compromise on the asking price which could satisfy Mike Ashley’s need for a hard bargain.
