Demba Ba Wants £90,000 Wages Or He’s Off
The story in the Express claims that Ba is currently on £40,000 a week and that Newcastle United are willing to go up to £50,000 to settle the contract clause allowing him to leave for around £7m if he chooses.
Obviously this is just the latest round of speculation surrounding Ba’s future and with each successive transfer window the issue is bound to surface until there is a resolution one way or the other.
Newcastle’s hand has hardly been strengthened by the fact it is Ba and not Cisse who has scored eight goals already in the Premier League.
If the player did leave then there would be no shortage of interest with the likes of Liverpool, QPR and Spurs all named as possible destinations.
With Ba picking up the goalscoring form again this season and the fact he’s stayed injury free for pretty much all of his time at Newcastle, only add to the appeal of a player who could be got on the cheap, at least in terms of transfer fee if not wages!
The press reports further claim that there is a rift between Ba and Cisse.
Whatever the reality of this story, I just hope that on this occasion, any transfer activity would be done on the basis of strengthening the team because as things stand Newcastle aren’t in a position to lose any more goals from the paper thin squad.
