Cisse To Finish Top Striker

Obviously Papiss Cisse has struggled to match the form he showed last season, so far, but maybe the attention focused on his lack of goals has let somebody else off the hook these past two months.

Since the end of September Newcastle have played 12 matches in all competitions and do you think Demba Ba or Papiss Cisse has scored most goals in those dozen matches?

I was a bit surprised but Cisse (Bordeaux, West Brom, Stoke) has outscored Demba Ba (West Brom and Swansea) by three to two, not something I was expecting when I looked at the stats.

Not quite history repeating itself from last season, yet,  but despite Demba Ba currently leading eight goals to two, my money would still be on Cisse ending up our top scorer.

I think undoubtedly Ba is the better all round player  but when it comes to goals, Cisse looks the most natural.

If I had to choose one player to have at the sharp end then it would be Papiss Cisse, which of course brings us to the heart of the problem – they both want to be the main man/striker.

Going into this weekend’s matches, only two players had had more shots on goal than Demba Ba’s 51 attempts, they were Defoe (52) and Suarez (76).

Should he be scoring more of those chances or has he done well to get in the positions, or a bit of both?

The bottom line for most fans is that the best use of their talents is to have Cisse as the out and out striker and Demba Ba & Ben Arfa in supporting/assisting roles. We have a real shortage of quality aside from the obvious players and to stand  a chance of turning the season around we need these two undoubted talents working for the good of the team.
