Warming Up The Balls

It is that time of the year again and no I’m not talking about the one bloke in red and white that you look forward to seeing every twelve months.

Around 2.40ish on Sunday afternoon we will find out our opponents in the third round of this season’s FA Cup, ties to be played on the weekend of Saturday 5th January, the draw shown live on ITV1.

Exactly where we’ll be in the league by then is open to question but a kind FA Cup draw would give everybody a lift to go with our European campaign which is already guaranteed to last until at least February.

There will be 64 balls in the hats/buckets and if you are watching, we are number 28.

Other ones you might wish to keep an eye on are the mackems (No.37) and Hereford (No.56), if they get through their second round tie with Cheltenham next week.

Sometimes Cup runs can happen at the strangest times, as we saw under both Gullit and Dalglish, especially under Kenny when we were drawn against almost exclusively teams from the lower divisions and even had a semi-final against second tier Sheffield United.
