United Star Feels The Pace
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Anita explained the change from playing in the Dutch league to the Premier League;
“It is very different; the play goes up and down, up and down. It’s different and you feel it in your legs, you get tired more quickly than in Holland.
You must work hard in training and if you play, you must give everything.
It’s great. It’s the biggest league in the world, so I’m happy to play in it. I have to adapt quick and make it my own”.
I’m sure Alan Pardew has played the Dutch midfielder/full-back more than he’d intended to. Last season the manager showed with Davide Santon that he was prepared to look at the bigger picture and let a big signing adapt rather than risk throwing him in too quickly.
Something that has undoubtedly stopped a number of our overseas signings in their tracks, meaning any potential career at St.James’ Park ruined before they’ve had time to feel their way in.
Anita has impressed more at full-back rather than in midfield but maybe that’s no surprise, considering the energy and stamina you need to compete in Premier League midfield battles.
