Tim Krul Covers For His Mates

9 years ago

Tim Krul is an outstanding keeper and comes across as a real canny lad but he’s come up with a pretty lame excuse for some of his colleagues’ performances on Sunday.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Krul said;

“We still felt the fatigue of the midweek European game. I could not help thinking we lacked the strength and fitness to come form behind”.

It doesn’t really wash when Krul was the only one to play the full ninety minutes in Belgium and start on Sunday, plus he was his normal reliably excellent self..

You could possibly say it wasn’t ideal for Anita to come on so early against West Ham after playing in Bruges but that is really stretching it.

You have Liverpool who are currently no world beaters but they did really well at Chelsea and they’d had to go all the way to Russia for a much tougher match than Newcastle had against Club Brugge.

I think the bottom line is that the squad has no depth and one or two of the likes of Cabaye, Simpson, Ba and others maybe ideally wouldn’t have started against West Ham after carrying knocks from the Liverpool match.
