Pardew Gives Star Fitness Thumbs Up
With options limited to say the least, the manager will be hoping Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse can fashion the goals to lift Newcastle out of their current malaise.
While Papiss Cisse has been a doubt all week, the manager had better news when he told the Chronicle;
“Papiss should be OK (for Southampton). He had a kick on the thigh, If he has a warm-up at Southampton he should be fine”.
Personally, I’m not as worried about Cisse’s loss of form/goals as most fans.
If your midfielders or creative players hit a bad patch then I think it is a lot more worrying as it is harder for them to climb their way out of it.
For a striker you are usually waiting for that bit of luck and the goal that sets them off again. All strikers have their bad patches but Cisse’s form both at Newcastle and prior to that in Germany show that he is a natural striker who will score goals given the opportunity.
What we undoubtedly need with our backs against the wall is Ciss and Ba working to get the best from their partnership rather than any individual ‘goals’ or egos.
