NUFC Looking At Anderlecht Centre-Back

Reports in Belgium are linking Newcastle United to centre-back Cheikhou Kouyate.

The 6ft 4 Senegalese international can also play as a defensive midfielder and is currently playing for Belgian champions, Anderlecht.

Clubs such as Zenit St Petersburg and Stuttgart have already been linked with Kouyate but now Belgian newspaper ‘La Derniere Heure have reported that Alan Pardew has shown interest in the player and had him watched by representatives.

The player is only 22 and would certainly seem to tick a lot of boxes, including Alan Pardew’s much publicised intention to bring in a commanding centre-back who could potentially add goals as well.

The small sticking point could be the rumoured £7.5m price tag on Kouyate’s head, as well as the attention he is attracting from elsewhere.

The player of course wouldn’t be travelling to the African Cup Of Nations in the new year either, as along with his international teammates, Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba, he will be sitting the tournament out.
