Newcastle United To Sink Or Swim
After Wednesday night’s defeat at the Britannia stadium, Alan Pardew was asked if it it was too early to say Newcastle United were in a relegation battle and as ever he met the question head on;
“Well we are now and no, it’s not too early.
We can’t bury our heads in the sand and we have to get wins to get out of it. Actually I’m so buoyed by the performance (Stoke) and by the fact that the things we have changed, the things we’ve done, have definitely helped the team.
The team have responded, hopefully we can take that forward”.
Whether or not the team/squad are in a relegation battle or not, averaging a point a match isn’t where any of us, players or fans, expected to be.We all know Steven Taylor and Yohan Cabaye look almost certain to be out until at least February, while first reserve Ryan Taylor will be missing beyond that.
With major cash investment in the team unlikely in January (apologies to everybody our there who thrives on transfer gossip/fantasy) then what Alan Pardew has to do is breed a siege mentality in the squad because both they and us know that it is only this relatively small group of players who will make United sink or swim.
The manager has given everybody the reality check so now it’s time for everybody to start swimming.
