Newcastle Sort Their Corners…
At Anfield on Sunday, all fourteen Liverpool corners were met by a Newcastle player, not one corner sent in found a Liverpool player.
As usual the returning Steven Taylor is ideal when defending set-pieces, while Krul’s willingness to come for the ball takes a lot of pressure off his defence.
I thought at the time that Demba Ba put in a real shift defensively and I can remember it being him getting his head on a decent proportion of the ‘Stevie G’ corner kicks.
Now we’ve rediscovered how to defend them after the Manchester United home match fiasco when we conceded twice from them, including the smallest player on the pitch, Patrice Evra, scoring the second of them.
Maybe now we’ll find the secret to unlock a few goals from our own corners, though maybe not too worthwhile studying Gerrard’s delivery too much…
