Newcastle Players Hold Crisis Meeting

While performances and results aren’t hitting the mark, a big positive is that the players aren’t hiding from the problems they face.

The spirit within the squad was regularly mentioned last season but it is when things are going against you that you really find out what it’s all about.

Mike Williamson has revealed that last week the players met up to discuss where things are going wrong and how to turn it around, this is what the central defender had to say to The Journal;

“The lads had a meeting during the week and everyone has put their thoughts across, it’s just about continuing to work hard and sticking together as a group.

We’re looking at ways of improving, any different areas where we can progress, from the management to the players.

People have worked certain things out, like who our danger men are.

There are certain times when there are two or three players on Hatem Ben Arfa for example.

Fact is we need to utilise our big players to the best of their ability, create different ways of attacking and work on being solid too – because at the moment we’re struggling to score goals and we’re leaking at the other end”.

Very honest of Mike Williamson and I think he hits the nail on the head. Other teams know they can team up on the likes of Ben Arfa because we are struggling for imagination and creativity.

Likewise the goals that are going in are a direct consequence of injuries and suspensions stopping our bets defensive unit forming a solid rock to build on.

However, the biggest problem in both areas is of course the failure to strengthen in the summer to give us enough back-up to cope when injuries/suspensions hit.
