Joey Barton’s At It Again

He might have a certain entertainment value with his public pronouncements but Joey Barton appears to have a real problem with his own self awareness.

He seems to see himself as part of the solution when clearly he epitomises the problem.

These are Joey’s latest incisive comments on the English Premier League;

‘Don’t delude yourself people. They care only for the revenue you bring through their consumeristic doors. Its the people’s game no longer…’

‘The EPL. A game played by mercenaries. Managed by mercenaries. Owned by mercenaries. Ran by mercenaries. Ethics? Morals? Principles?’

I wouldn’t disagree with what he’s saying to a large extent but does he not hear the glass breaking as he shatters his own glass house.

Barton obviously sees himself as some kind of Robin Hood/Superhero type on the side of the people…obviously not somebody who violently attacks others and is happy to pick up his ill-deserved wages while sitting in prison. Not to mention the ridiculous sending off at Liverpool which ruled him out of the last three matches of what turned out to be our relegation season.

Then moving on to QPR where because of his stupid selfish actions he almost got them relegated with his sending off on the last day of the season, only for his team to be saved by a result elsewhere. That sending off and subsequent actions also leading to him being unavailable for the opening months of this season.

Barton might not only play for money (definition of a mercenary) but for him to lecture others about ‘Ethics? Morals? Principles?’ is really taking…a lend.

If he’d donated all of his wages to charity when he has made himself unavailable over the last five years or so, I’d have maybe some time for him.

However, maybe ‘parasite’ is the most fitting title for Joey, a person who exploits others and gives nothing in return.
