Football On A Saturday? At Home? 3pm? Never!

I suppose I should begin by saying I’m ‘ower 50’ and therefore somewhat long in the tooth, I could also be described as a bit of a traditionalist.

It will come as no surprise to those of a similar ilk that I’m really looking forward to the match on Saturday. It’s not just about the game but the whole Saturday 3pm tradition, meeting up with mates for a couple of beers before watching us underachieve, then meeting back up with mates over a couple more beers for the post match inquest and some general craic.

In fact, it was always the ‘day out’ that made things bearable in the darker days when the match on its own tended to be a bit of a distraction. I’ve got a different set of ‘match’ mates to my ‘going out’ mates, if that makes sense, and so it’s now becoming rare that I meet up with them for a proper ‘day out’.

It’s just not the same at 4pm on a Sunday or a Monday night. For the first time this season and indeed for the first time since April, we’ve a home game at 3pm on Saturday.

I know there are many good reasons for the fixture timetable, after all we are in Europe which has been a major factor and Sky of course run football nowadays.

However,  I’ve become increasingly fed up over the years with the increasing number of fixture alterations  and I’m sure I’m not alone. I was always brought up with Saturday being your football day and now with it being such a rare occurrence I’m probably looking forward to it more than ever.

Knocking bet that it will be a full house tomorrow with Mags who have fallen off the radar over the years, trooping up to the ground for a 3pm Saturday Kick off and….watch us get beat! Ha! Ha!
