End Of Brugge v NUFC Ticket Sales
Following the controversial decision to only give Newcastle a ridiculously low 1,470 tickets for the match in Bruges, there has been a lot of bad feeling generated. Even though the club belatedly provided another 900 tickets following pressure from the mayor and local police, this will still mean a large number of Newcastle fans will be travelling without tickets, having already committed to travel and accommodation.
The Belgian club previously claimed that demand would be so high from their fans that they couldn’t justify giving Newcastle more than the bare minimum (1,470) as regulated by UEFA. They then claimed that it was impossible to give any more because of of the design of the stadium and the need to keep rival fans apart, only to then amazingly to find a way to give the extra 900.
We now have a situation where tickets were still on sale (for Belgian fans only) right up to to 8pm local time when the ticket office closed. No more tickets are now allowed to be sold on either match day or tomorrow (Wednesday).
Many Newcastle fans (especially those who have travelled without tickets) will now wait with interest to see what the crowd is on Thursday night, rumours abound that there will be thousands upon thousands of empty seats.
