Coloccini Makes Premier League Team Of Season So Far
Our captain has had a busy time already this season what with a recall to the Argentina squad, an early injury, plus of course a performance against Sunderland that was arguably the best by a centre-back since Jonathan Woodgate’s (brief) days.
On Sunday he obviously paid the price for a reckless challenge (though I question whether his boot made any contact at all) but he has picked up an early season ‘award’ from an unlikely place.
On Match Of The Day 3, Robbie Savage and Mark Lawrenson were given the job of picking their eleven best players of the season so far and came up with the following;
Friedel (Spurs), Jenkinson (Arsenal), Cahill (Chelsea), Coloccini, Baines (Everton), Sterling (Liverpool), Fellaini (Everton), Mata (Chelsea), Pienaar (Everton), Van Persie (Manchester United), Michu (Swansea)
Otherwise, I think Ba’s number of goals and especially their quality, puts him at least on a par with the two they’ve chosen. While Hatem Ben Arfa has shown at times he could be a candidate but maybe needs a bit more consistency. Having said that it is easier for say Mata at Chelsea who gets more space because the rest of his team carry more threat, while Ben Arfa rarely has less than two markers which was the case again against Liverpool.
