Cisse’s Form Should Make Decisions Easier
In the second half of last year, Cisse’s amazing start and form pushed Ba out onto the left wing when we used the 4-3-3 formation going forward, switching to 4-5-1 whilst defending…it’s now pretty much the standard Premiership set up which prevents the age old 4-4-2 formation from being over-run in the midfield. Ba was not a happy bunny but it worked.
Newcastle’s second half run in the premiership last year was pretty much down to this 4-3-3 formation but for some strange reason Pardew is running with a 4-4-2 formation this year and Cabaye and Co. in midfield are struggling.
Now the situation is reversed…Ba is bang and form and Cisse looks like he couldn’t hit a barn door from 10 feet…but we’re still playing 4-4-2 and introducing Shola when really Cisse’s poor form should make 4-3-3 the preferred formation.
It looks however likely we’re setting up again with a 4-4-2 formation against Liverpool with Ba and Shola up front but every time we go with a 4-4-2 formation to Liverpool we get over-ran in Midfield and give Gerrard all the space he needs to run amok, in most cases scoring and making 7 or 8 telling assists.
WE CAN’T AFFORD TO GIVE GERRARD THIS AMOUNT OF ROOM…we have to do something different!
Pardew should be thinking about leaving Ba up front on his own with Jonas and Ben Arfa as his fluid pair, who either run on in the 4-3-3, or track back in the 4-5-1.
The middle three should be Cabaye and Tiote (obviously once his suspension is over) with Perch or Anita – though today that would mean Perch AND Anita featuring, the back four being Santon and Simpson and Colo and Stevie Taylor.
What do you think???
