Big Decision For Toon Star In January
Danny Simpson has still only months remaining on his contract and no immediate prospect of agreeing a new one.
Alan Pardew has summed up the situation;
“Danny (Simpson) will have to wait and see what happens in the window. The club has most players on long-term contracts and Danny is the exception to that.
He is underrated by our fanbase but his defensive work is important – defensively he can deal with a wide player”.
A couple of things that to me are perfectly clear –
Firstly, as it stands Simpson is our best player at right-back and automatic first choice.
I think something has to give in January with relation to Simpson, I can’t see the club letting his contract run down and the player leave for nothing. So either Simpson agrees a new contract or he leaves.
I can see the club selling him even if they don’t bring in a replacement and I think the player has no chance of getting close to any kind of parity with the contracts holding the ‘purple’ contracts.
The problem comes when you expect players like Simpson to play first team football every week but not pay him as a first teamer.
